Music Magazine Evaluation Q1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I realised that the product I had created needed to use regular media connections such as "the Left Third Rule" because otherwise the magazine would alienate the target audience and as a consequence, the magazine's design would deter the target audience from reading the magazine. If my music magazine did not follow the regular convention of the left third rule then it would not serve the purpose it needed to which was to attract the target audience. The convention helped the music magazine appear more professional and aesthetic to the target audience which was why the convention was used in the first place and the reason why I kept with the convention. The left third convention was used on the left hand side of the music magazine front cover which is obvious when the audience sees the front cover. I developed the convention of having a unique music magazine name which draws attention to the magazine and this convention is used by many music magazines such as "Q" which is how I avoided alienating my target audience.

The images I took when compared to the images of other magazines such as "Q" are not edited as much and the location where the images are took are in more natural environments rather than a studio with a green screen or white background. The Images I took challenged the forms of of real media products because there is less editing that has took place with my image which is clearly shown below. The "Q" magazine compared to my music magazine shows the difference in editing because Cheryl's image has been edited to have no imperfections at all with the more vibrant colours such as her ed lips being made more vibrant whilst her hair and skin paler and darker to enhance the vibrant colours on the model. My magazine only had the main image dimmed in the brightness due to the sunlight when taking the photos and only certain materials/objects that needed to be removed such as the the white piece of string on the blue polo shirt on the model was removed. many magazines will make the model look perfect whilst my magazine did not try to which is how I challenged the media of products today because the media magazines will entice readers with images of females to manipulate the "Male Gaze" (A theory by Laura Mulvey).
