Lighting Shots

This the presentation on lighting shots that are used in film and photography to highlight certain objects or emphasise certain emotions in a scene. For example, a back light could be used to reflect mystery of a character or the seriousness of the scene.

Various Camera Shots

In media studies, we have been investigating into different camera shots that are used in photography and films to convey certain details or emotions by characters. I used professional camera shots from many different films such as Oblivion and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug because those examples provide a better quality example of a camera shot thus showing the viewer a more clear example. We did take photos in my media class but mine was just terrible, best not to use them I though.

My Original Camera Shots

Original Camera Shots

In my media lesson me and a few others had to go out into the school and take some camera shots to experiment with some camera angles. This experience was a new one for me as I'm not the type to go out and take photos of anything random or eye catching but nevertheless it was a good experience for me. Below are the images of my attempt to experiment with camera angles.

Extreme Close Up
This is my eye which I used for extreme close up and you can certainly see why the camera shot is called a extreme close up, they are mostly used to make the audience focus on one subject. I say the extreme close up is very effective as I noticed the very first thing I did is look at the eye in the image.

Close Up
This is a gas tap located in the science labs in my school which I used to take a close up shot. A close up shot is used to focus on the detail of an object or the expression of a character and if it shows the expression of a character the camera shot only shows either the head or head and shoulders of the character. This type of camera shot can  also be used to imply intimacy or tension between characters.

Wide Shot
This is me on the football field of my school and this is what is known as a wide shot as it includes a lot of visual information. It mostly used by the director to set the scene as there is so much visual information for the audience to take in.

Medium Shot
This is simply the direction sign at my school to obviously direct people to reception and the camera shot is a medium shot. This shot is used to present visual information to the audience whilst still focusing on the subject.

Overall, what I learned from this experience is that you need to take around about 30 photos when taking camera shots so that you have more images to work with. I found this out as I only took  10 photos and the only worth while photos out of that ten are the ones above this text. Well lesson learned and now I know for the future so I won't make the same mistake.

My Media Consumption in 7 Days

I was told in Media Studies to take note of me media consumption in a time period of 7 days, well this is my media consumption over 7 days:

Friday 5th Sept- E-mail, Skype, News, imdb, Youtube, Twitch, Text messages
Saturday 6th Sept- E-mail, Skype, News, imdb, Youtube, Twitch, Text messages
Sunday 7th Sept- E-mail, Skype, News, imdb, Youtube, Text messages
Monday 8th Sept- E-mail, Skype, News, imdb, Youtube, Twitch, Text messages, phone call
Tuesday 9th Sept- Skype, News, imdb, Youtube, Text messages
Wednesday 10th Sept-  E-mail, Skype, News, , Youtube, Twitch,
Thursday 11th Sept- E-mail, Skype, imdb, Youtube, Text messages

Overall, what I got from my notes of my media consumption is that I spend quite a bit of time my phone or laptop. I realised that I spend more time texting, e-mailing and viewing videos on Youtube at the weekend probably because I had more time than I did when I was at sixth form. The major realisation is that Youtube takes a lot of my time as that is the one media outlet that I went on no matter what. To conclude, I believe my notes show that generally our society in this day and age can not live without technology and I know this because if there was an apocalypse and all technology was rendered useless, I have no idea what I would d with myself. So hat was the result of my media consumption which I found quite interesting...

About Me, Myself & I

Hey, my name is Brandon Rock and I'm not really fan of this blogging business but hey lets give it a try. Let me start of by saying some things about me, well I'm a sixth form student currently studying Modern History, Applied ICT, Media Studies and Business Studies which I find all of them fascinating, especially Modern History. The reason why I love Modern History is that I get study about how and why Britain came to be the dominant power in the WORLD (jut wanted to highlight that) during the 1800's. You can probably tell from that sentence that I'm super proud to be British, anyway... outside of school when I'm not doing work or out with friends I'm mountain biking at Cannock Chase which is insanely fun and dangerous at the same time. I won't tell you how many times I've broken my bones when tumbling down a very muddy hill.

You have no doubt seen the northern light image above this text by now and the reason behind that is that the northern lights in Norway is the No.1 place in the world that I want to see, sure there are the seven world wonders but they don't compare to the northern lights. Don't ask why I want to see the northern lights, I just do, its just something that has caught my eye and I've never let slip from my view ever since.

How was that for a post on my blog? I'm still not a fan of the whole blogging process but I thought I did all right tis time. Lets hope I do alright next time...
